Welcome Influenced by the Sonoran desert surroundings, Samson's fiber art often echoes her painted images. Colors are vivid and rich, inviting the viewer to travel across the images in search of nuances of texture and hue. In her fiber art, Samson uses wet felting methods in which natural wool fibers combine with soap, friction, and termperature changes to form hardened or felted wool. Some of the artwear is made from a combination of wool and silk; this process is known as nuno felting. In nuno felting a thin layer of wool melds with a thin cloth such as silk gauze to produce a fabric which is richly textured and beautifully draped. Needle felting is another technique wherein the fibers can be enjoined by means of a sharp needle, locking wiry ends in place.
As you view the gallery, remember that the fiber art is only an example of what has been done. Samson's artwear and wallhangings are one of a kind pieces. If you are interested in purchasing a fiber piece similar to what you see in the gallery, please contact the artist. In contrast, the prints and paintings are available for sale directly as appears in the gallery. |
